Rolfing PDF Print E-mail

Like the frame of a building, our skeletal structures give us height, depth, and width in three-dimensional space. Dr. Ida Rolf, Ph.D., noticed that over time healthy, natural shape deteriorates from the effects of injuries, stress, illness, and gravity itself.

Also called Structural Integration, Rolfing is a form of hands-on manipulation that enables the body to regain the natural integrity of its form, thus enhancing postural efficiency and freedom of movement for the client.

Dr. Rolf recognized that the body is inherently a system of seamless networks rather than a collection of separate parts.  The connective tissues, called fascia, actually surround, support, and penetrate all of the muscles, bones, nerves, and organs.  Rolfing works on this web-like complex of connective tissues (fascia) to release, realign, and balance the whole body, thus resolving discomfort, reducing compensations and alleviating pain.

Different form traditional therapies, Rolfing is a process that takes place over ten sessions, each session working a different part of the body.  It works to get to the heart of the structural problem and thus restore the health, vitality, and well being of the client.
