Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist
Practice Description
Over many years of sitting with clients, families and patients, I’ve learned that to listen deeply to another’s story is a great privilege and responsibility. Within the telling of a person's story are valuable keys to understanding how that person sees themselves, how they connect with others and what they believe about their world.
Making a decision to seek therapy is often difficult, but it reflects courage, a belief in oneself and a commitment to one’s quality of life. There are many reasons why an individual enters counseling, sometimes it’s because of the stress of long-standing internal conflicts; other times its problems with persistent sadness, anxiety or low self-esteem. Many look for a counselor, when faced with the end of a significant relationship or are struggling with a serious health condition. A counseling relationship is freequently sought, when one is looking for guidance with exploring personal growth, enhance creativity or support their spiritual development.
Â
In working with clients I encourage their efforts in three major areas
- Increased awareness of their thought and emotional patterns of response to current life situations
- insight into how and why particular thought and emotional patterns have developed over their lives
- Development of new responses and skills which will be more satisfying and lead to a more peaceful and fulfilling life
